Blue and Gold Banquet

 Well since I have been put back in scouts as the Cubmaster (It seems weird to be in the cub scout program with out having a child there with me) I get to be in charge of organizing the Blue and Gold Banquet.    After researching blogs and Pinterest I had come up with a couple of ideas to present to the den leaders, and the one we ended up one was "Angry Birds".  I thought the ideas I had researched sounded like a lot of fun and here is where I found most of the ideas that we used (there is more then the one entry on her blog so check them all out, I think there were four).   I was fretting over it all last week, hoping it would turn out and everyone would enjoy themselves.  I love how it turned out.  I am just glad it is over, and every one had a great time (or so I hear). 

 The tables equiped with crayons, coloring sheets and some brain teasers for the older kids/adults that don't want to color.

I forgot to get a picture of the food table, but it looked awesome.  For dinner we had a baked potato bar with all the fixin's (chili, cheese, green onions/chives, bacon bits, sour cream/ranch dressing and some home made rolls).  The food was delish and the dessert was even better if I say so myself, cake and ice cream. 

 For the activity we split up into two groups and the kids got to build forts and hide the pigs (green balloons).   They took turns trying to knock down the other teams fort with some kick balls/dodge balls.  They had a blast playing!!  I just made up some simple rules to keep it under control and everything was good.  We did it at the back of the gym and it was great the parents could visit and all the noise and kids were enjoying themselves.

 I forgot to take a picture of the "Angry Birds" here (the angry birds game, I can't get it to pull up the instructions, I just used the picture and made up my own rules).  The kids had so much fun playing with them as we were finishing setting up.  I can't believe I forgot to take pictures.  I haven't given them to the boys yet so I can still get a picture of the boys playing with them.

 I didn't take all the family with me, Dad stayed home with Andrew and Ryan.  Emma wanted to go and Clark had just been dropped off at the church from Winter Youth Conference so I kept him with me.  Which was good because I needed a little more help just before it started.  Emma had a lot of fun being with her friends and seeing a couple of the boys from her primary class get their awards and crossover to the eleven year old scouts.  Clark (pictured with all the girls) enjoyed the night also.  Here they are trying to finish the brain teasers.

I had every intention of having the boys make their own "Angry Birds" neckerchief slide, but time ran out and we ended up making them this last Wednesday.  Even though the Banquet was last Saturday they were still excited to make one.  I saw a couple of different ideas here and here and let the boys decide how they wanted to have theirs look.  I think they all look great, not one is the same.  We ended up using red and orange foam sheets, googly eyes, black felt and a pipe cleaner so they could tie it on there neckerchief.  My cubs are so creative, I love what they come up with.

I am glad it is over, but I had a lot of fun watching the boys and their siblings enjoying themselves.  It was well worth it!!

Valentines

This year Emma wanted to take a valentine to her teachers that wasn't the card or candy that she was giving everyone else. So I started looking around on the internet and this is what I found.  I saw it and thought it would be a fun gift to get, and who doesn't like brownies.

Andrew keeps us laughing

The other day Andrew and I went to the library for story time and I had to park on the other side of the parking lot to where you had to cross to get to the sidewalk.  I ask to hold Andrew's hand so we could cross the road.  He told me "no" and grabbed his other hand and said he was going to hold his own hand and took off.  Then again last night he was running around the church and was told he needed to hold my hand, he said "no", held his own hand and walked down the hall.  He totally cracks me up, I don't know what we would do with out him!!

A sad goodbye

 We said goodbye to our puppies Aggie and Rascal last Friday night.  We felt bad that they didn't get the attention that they should have gotten, and to top it off with me being allergic to them, I couldn't do too much with them without my allergies acting up.  We found some wonderful owners for them, and were excited that they might get more attention there.  When the kids came home from school Friday I informed them that if they wanted to go out one last time and play with the dogs before they were gone they needed to go out then.  While they were out there I decided I was going to take some pictures so they could remember their puppies.  The one nice thing about not having them in the backyard anymore is the kids are wanting to go out and play more.  The kids hardly ever went out before Friday, but since they (the dogs) have been gone the kids have been outside both days since, and Andrew has already asked to go out this morning.  If it wasn't 40 degrees he would already be out there.

 Rascal and Aggie

Aggie is such a sweet girl, and every time I went out she had to come and make sure I knew she was there.

Rascal is such a funny little pup.  He would never play with us.  We would try to play with him and he would roll over and play dead.  Now with Aggie he was always wrestling with her, and probably more than half the time Aggie would start the playing.  Aggie had taken on a motherly role with Rascal.  She is four and Rascal is two, but you would think it was the other way around with as playful as Aggie still is.  We are going to miss them greatly, but I know they will be happy where they are now, and hopefully they will have more attention.  I believe they are both going to be more of a house dog then and outside one.  If the allergies weren't there for me they probably would have been allowed in the house, here.

January Visiting teaching

I saw these cute little lantern/treat jars here and I thought it would be fun gift for the sisters I visit.  I was going to do it for Christmas but then I decided they're snowmen and that also works for January.  So in December I took them a plate of homemade Christmas treats, and saved these for January. 

Instead of using vinyl, one of my sisters cut the snowmen out of thinner paper and  I decoupaged them onto the jar.  I did glue the pieces of the snowman together first.  One thing I learned is don't draw the face onto the snowman before you put it on the jar, it runs and makes a big mess. 

I thought they turned out so cute, and the sisters loved them!!  Jennifer, thanks a bunch for your help with the the snowmen!!
