Clark's Eagle project...

is now finished.  Last Saturday September 29, 2012, Clark's Eagle project went off with a bang.  He organized a group of men, scouts and some young women to go around to clean up and paint some (close to fifty) fire hydrants in the area.  I think he had around twenty five people show up to help him on this project, which was great since they broke up into groups and all headed to different areas to clean up the hydrants.  It ended up only taking a couple of hours to complete with as many groups as their was.  It was a wonderful day to do some service for the city.  The weather cooperated nicely with the exception of some humidity in the air.

 

 Some of the hydrants were covered in anthill's or with weeds and grass (these are just a couple of before pictures).  We weren't prepared for the anthill covered one.  So Dad and Brother Spears started kicking at it to try to knock it down.  All they did was make the ants mad and they were getting bit through their shoes and pants, not good.  Mental note don't kick an anthill!!  I don't know if you can see the ants on the hydrant, man they were mad even Andrew got bit and he was several feet away from it.  It now looks great, like the ants were never there (as of Saturday).

  Clark had lots of preparation to get this project off the ground.  He spoke with the guy in charge of the water works/fire hydrants, about his idea and what he needed to do. He also had to get volunteers to help out, organize the maps and volunteers into groups so everyone would have something to do, and get the supplies.  Most of the supplies were donated by the city, but there were a few things we decided we needed extra.  He had to go talk with the manager of a couple of home improvement stores/paint stores for a few other donations to make sure we had enough supplies.

Even Emma and Andrew got in the action of painting.  Me, I was in charge of making sure the groups were okay and taking pictures.

  This was towards the end and I decided to let Andrew out of the van and help dad for a minute, before I headed back to the church.  Boy was he excited, he didn't want to drive around with me he wanted to stay and paint with dad.

Ryan and Zack came late. They are on the same soccer team and since Ryan is the goalie we decided he needed to be at his game instead of the project.  We figured he could help in other ways.  By the time the game was over there was just a couple of hydrants left, so we made sure there was some work for them to do.

Now all Clark needs to do is finish the paperwork, make a scrapbook and have his board of review.
